When and Where to Find Us

The Rock Hill Council of Neighborhoods holds our general meetings on the fourth Thursday of every month, except for December, as there is no meeting that month. We meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Housing & Neighborhood Services Building at 150 Johnston Street. Meetings generally last about 60 minutes and are informal in nature.
Our meetings are open to the public, so anyone can visit. We do ask that you please contact us ahead of time if you would like to visit a meeting, so we can make sure we have a space for you. Occasionally we have meals during our meetings so we need to make sure we have extra if you're coming to visit on one of those evenings.

Special Presentation: David Vehaun, our new city manager, gave us a review of how the Bleachery site is progressing. The demolition is 90% complete. The water treatment building, the power house, and the smoke stacks will stay. The environmental work is almost complete. Hunter Interest Inc. will be checking the soil for any problems. The city will own the site in April and will then secure the buildings &
remove any crud. There will then have to be new water & utility lines installed to serve the Bleachery site. Plans are to widen White Street. The City Council will begin to rezone the site in February. It will be 2012 before the area will start to be developed. The two story building will be used for parking. Some of the windows in this building are original windows. The city hopes to sell the land for redevelopment. They hope to make the four story into an office/business area. This would make it possible for an increase in jobs. The plan for the north side of the site is to have restaurants & shops. In the center would be a park or a hotel and conference center. This is just one of the ideas for the site. Another plan was to have adult & senior housing in the four story building and restaurants, theaters, and shops in the northern part. This was the plan of the previous owner. The College Town Action Plan suggestion is to have restaurants & commercial on Cherry Rd and downtown. They would like a streetcar connecting the two areas. This could change what would go in the bleachery site..
